The Universe Hates My Back

So today I'm not working.

However it's because I tweaked my back to the point where standing is painfuk.

No that was not a typo.

I can work on Cybersix stuff today!

...But my laptop with the comic materials is on the other side of the house...

I make no promises unless one of you can magically teleport either my laptop to me or a punch of painkillers.

Calling Any Willing Artists

So yeah this is a little off the regular topic but remember a while back those sketches I shared that I made for the O.M.F.G. sereies 3 toyline submissions on Octobertoys.com? Well I have an idea for a new submission but my skills are not able to convey what I want, and I was wondering if anyone who reads my stuff could help?

If anyone is willing to take a whack at it here is the description for the fig.

  • It's a 3ball snowman, who for his head has a mushy jack-o-lantern for a head. He is slightly hunched over and the jack-o-lantern is sitting tilted instead of flat.
  • His arms are made of sticks, one is a single stick that starts rather thick with snow wrapped around it at the base and ends with some twig-fingers. The other is a pair of sticks wrapping around each other, with plenty of open gaps in places, one of them ends with a split into two branches while the other is just a single stick.
  • On top of his head he's wearing a tophat.
  • Instead of scarf he has a noose hangin down and to the side.
  • Instead of rock/coal buttons there are little stylized skulls.
  • Sticking out of the bottom snowball in the front there is an empty boot, slightly tilted. Looking like it was put there while it was an ordinary snowman.
  • On the bakcside of the bottom ball (higher up than the boot) there is an arm reaching out wearing a mitten. I don't know if the snow around the arm should be pushing out making it look like the arm is struggling to reach out of the ball, or the snow should be concave giving the impression that it's sucking the arm inside.
  • On the backside of the middle ball there is an empty stocking cap stuck to the ball, partially "submerged" in places (there is no head at all in the cap, it's just a flat empty cap), and a second mitten, maybe with a string connecting it to the one on the arm.
I have yet to think of name for this guy, so any help with that would also be appreciated.

New News For A New Year

Hiya folks have some belated New Year News for y'all.

First of is some news on your translator.

I'm doing alright; I'm working fulltime now (I believe I mentioned this before, but meh...), and it's a fairly decent job with 7-4 Monday-Thursday and half days for Friday. My only real complaint is that I need to wake up at 5:30 in the morning and drive 40+ minutes to get there on time. (That and the occassional fear that I'll be working there forever sending shirts on down to be printed/embroidered until I retire.)

Family is doing ok, nothing too unusual there.

The holidays were pretty good. I got a Nook HD that I've been playing around with a bit. (I'll have to add .epub versions of the comics to the downloads later) I got some ninja turtle stuff and Last Stand of the Wreckers in hardcover, along with the regular scattering of shirts and movies.

I had a bit of a cold over New Years and didn't even stay up for it.

Now for some translation news.

As I'm sure you've noticed I've uploaded all of Part 1 for Cybersix volume 2. If I haven't put the link on the downloads page It'll be there soon.

So that I don't get burned out I've decided to do some Meteorix translating. I recently was able to find the last two issues and possibly a non-corrupted version of a page I was missing for number seven.

I do have one minor problem though; the raw scans I have for issues one through twenty are of poor quality, making them rather hard to read and therefore translate. If there is anyone who is willing to maybe take a whack at enhancing the pages in photoshop or something so that I can read the text, I would be very greatful. And remember the faster I get through some Meteorix the quicker I'll get back to Cybersix.

That's about all I have for a you now, so I'll post more later when I have more to type about.

Cybersix Assistance

As I mentioned in an earlier post there is an image in chapter 16 of Cybersix that I may need a bit of help with. As you can see some of the text is cut off of the image due to the angles. This makes it a bit of a pain to translate properly. If there is anyone who could help me by filling in the blanks of whats missing I would be very greatful. Remember helping me means the chapter gets an earlier release than it would otherwise.

To any and all who decide to help, Thank You.

It will be a while before I get to this point in translating but any help would speed it up. Like before anyone who helps will be acknowledged in the translation.

Photoshopping Type Questions

Strike that. Did a little net hopping and found a better version of the image.

I'm currently prepping images for translation and noticed one of my Meteorix images was corrupted a bit, and so discolored on part.

I was wondering if any of you dear readers knew how to fix this sort of thing. I tried fiddling around with it in the program I use (G.I.M.P.) but couldn't make any decent progress.

This is the image, it's not so bad that I can't use it, but it is rather vexing.

See, not too bad...
Thank you to anyone and everyone who wants to help.

Annoying Translation Problem

Just spent about 30 minutes trying to translate this one phrase from Cybersix 12.

des qu’on leur fait un peu confiance,

les voilĂ  avec ce cote maternel qu’elles ont tout de suite.

I ended up using about five different translator programs and cobbled together something intelligent out of the results but I am still a bit concerned about it. If any of you my fine readers know French and would be willing to give me a proper translation I would be grateful. I won't tell you what I managed to get so not to influence you unduly.

Ugh.. I haven't had this much hassle translating since dealing with mexican slang and not realizing some of the character's text in Meteorix is done phonetically (written as they would actually say, accents and such) and not literally.

Computer Issues Part 2

EDIT- ok its looking like the stuff I tried might have actually worked since there hasnt been a single hiss since the reinstalling of audio drivers. Lets hope that the problem is solved.

To the person who commented trying to help;
since your comment lead to my talking to the one who suggested what I did, I have decided that you helped indirectly. Therefore I will compromise with the reward. Once I finish the last couple of pages of Meteorix #2 and post it I will then in the space of a week from the time I post the link I will translate Cybersix issue 12. Out of the 30 some people who visited the blog today you are the only one who took the time to try and help. I thank you for that, and if you can provide a name of somesort I will stick it in with Cybersix 12.

On the suggestion of a friend I tried uninstalling the realtek high definition audio driver thingy from my computer. It worked in the sense that there was no more of the intermitent hissing type noises, but when I reinstalled drivers so that my computer could have sound again the hissing was back. I also tried turning the microphone off and running the trouble shooter stuff for audio but none of that worked.

This is quite vexing. The sound I am pretty sure is coming from the speakers as it seems to be coming from the top right part of the keyboard part of my laptop.

Shoulda Known- Computer Problem

EDIT: For the poster who asked the sound seems to be coming from the speaker particulary on the right side. Also for those who want to help an E-mail address with your posted comments would be nice.

I should have known that after that last post something would happen...

My computer is now making hissing noises when I boot it up and at some other times (only other time I know for certain is when I do the whole 'Run as Administrator' bit). It does this even thought the speakers are muted.

Does anyone know if this is something I can fix on my own or do I need to take it in. Or if it is something that I don't need to worry much about?

If any help I get from here results in the fixing of this issue (other than telling me I need to take it to a professional) I will translate an entire issue of either Cybersix or Meteorix in less than a week. Which one will be decided by the person who helped me out.

Keep in mind my computer skills are rather limited to internet surfing and minor picture modifying. The laptop I am using is a Compaq Presario CQ62 running Windows 7. I got last November just after Thanksgiving at Walmart for about $300.
