I'm making progress so you all get a treat.
Also I'm making progress on the custom ebooks bit. Currently the only problem is that the ordering thingy is screwy going 1, 10, 11, 12,....19, 2, 20, 21,....., 49, 5, 6, 7, ... etc etc

The trick to solving the page orders is to put a zero in front of the single digit number, i.e. 01, 02, .... 10, 11 and so forth. And if you got a hundred or more pages it 001, 002... 011... 112 and so forth, you get what I'm getting at here.
